Sandy,

An unexpected benefit of a daily tbsp of psyllium (for 3 days):
average blood sugar is lower by 20 points (mg/dL)

 Who knew?! Today's blood sugar stayed under 100 (5.6) all day
(but energy level is lower, so more carbs are required). :roll

Thanks for that, Rod. I'm now adding a little psyllium to our daily intake. Every little bit helps keep that ole blood sugar under control. :)

"I saw Elon Musk talk about the fact when he was a child, he was afraid of the dark. But being the genius he is, he read about what the dark actually is – the simple absence of light – the absence of photons. In other words, we fear less when we actually understand what it is we fear."

the dark is not what is feared, but what might be hiding in the dark

About Soylent (not Green) ...

Re: https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyl ... story.html

"The powder’s first or main ingredients are: maltodextrin, rice protein and oat flour along with key vitamins and minerals."

 Probably a reasonable nutrition substitute (IMO) for real food once in a while. However, maltodextrin (the first ingredient and highly processed!) is a bit unlike "real food". I would be tempted (if I would spend for this convenience drink) to mix Soylent powder with real kefir and add real fruit concentrate (or cacao powder). But a diabetic is not easily tempted with 84g carbohydrates .... already in one drink. :o

:!: See also: https://www.healthline.com/health/food- ... is-it-safe

According to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, carbohydrates should make up no more than 45–65 percent of your overall calories. Ideally, most of those carbohydrates should be complex carbohydrates that are rich in fiber, not foods that quickly raise your blood sugar." ;)

 Rice protein, oat flour, kefir, and natural flavoring (plus a multi-vitamin on the side) might be a substitute substitute ...
but I understand that mixing food with saliva is important for beginning digestion of all food consumed (all drinkable meals
should probably be slowly swished 'n swashed in the mouth before swallowing).

Re: https://www.healthline.com/health/autoimmune-disorders

 While a "dysfunctional" immune system is the common focus of auto-immune diseases, perhaps the immune system is just doing its job ... and the "offending" tissue/organ/system is what has degraded first, causing the immune system to be alarmed and attack the "foreigner".

This perspective arises from contemplation of pemphigoid of the mouth where the older patient had been a lifelong smoker and drinker, consuming a poor diet (especially one of limited fruit and vegetables, sources of important antioxidants and micronutrients).
Should not we expect oral tissue degradation with this type of immune response :?:

 The controversy about the teacher who was fired for not giving students a 50% grade* also hints that
it's time to fire grades 'D' and 'F' (of A,B,C,D,F) because these letters have acquired obvious negativity
by historical usage (paraphrased): A - Superior, B - Above Average, C - Average,
D - Below Average (i.e., sub-human intelligence and/or performance),
F - Failed (i.e., animal-level intelligence and/or performance).

* https://www.wptv.com/news/region-st-luc ... ing-policy

:!: Surely, other letters, or symbols, or numbers could be substituted that
include subtle encouragement and direction for student improvement. :finger:

 Regarding substitute letters for 'D' and 'F' ...
'C' underscore for 'D' and double underscore for 'F' seem sufficient,
with both still communicating "less than average" performance ...
but without subtle allusion to 'D'ummy and 'F'ailure ;)

"80% of people drink coffee" :o

Coffee Pot? Not exactly - there's no psychoactive benefit!
... but pot-infused CBD oil  has different benefit. ;)

See also: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cannabidiol
"Side effects of CBD include sleepiness, decreased appetite, diarrhea, fatigue, malaise, weakness, sleeping problems"

 Who knows?! Maybe diarrhea is a benefit related to constipation, sleepiness to insomnia, malaise to hyperactivity.
So, I'll probably stay with habitual caffeine+sugar/carbs (coffee + cookie).
