Sandy's garden in pictures
Sandy's garden in pictures
Finally, the moment came to show Sandy's garden to the rest of the world...
(posted with her permission).
In the foreground in the first garden you see my beloved Kale plants with
broccoli, lettuce and sad little silver beet surrounding it. Our lettuce
was gorgeous this past summer and Autumn but it is growing extremely slow
now as the weather has cooled down and the nights are quite chilly. I do
miss having fresh picked salad three times a day. On the fence, the lovely
green plants are Passion fruit. George just planted them this year and so
far we have only had one form on the vine. Hopefully next year things will
be better. On the wall in between the passion fruit we grew purple pole
beans but they are long gone when this photo was snapped. You can see
George in the back there checking out either some more broccoli or the
wilting cucumber plants.
Peanut plants with Rue and logs.
This photo shows the Passion fruit a little better. George planted Lavendar,
marigolds and dianthus in front of them to help attract the bees. Which
must not have worked very well since we only had one passion fruit.

Re: Sandy's garden in pictures
Sandy, pity you took the pictures with the sun shadow covering the plants growing right next to the fence. Hard to see them.
So this is where all those midwayers play badminton while waiting for George and you?

Re: Sandy's garden in pictures
Thanks Robert for posting this...Wingzie would say "Udahbest!" Just look at all that grass for me to mow in the first photo. ... and that's only a bit of the back yard! ( Not that I'm complaining... great exercise is that yard mowing. )
Yes... you are so right...it wasn't the best timing of these photos but that shadowing you see, unfortunately, lasts for much of the day this time of year (winter) which could be why the baby transplants aren't doing well in the long fence garden. It needs all kinds of stuff added to the soil too...Lots of organic matter and compost would be nice to draw the earth worms which are so good for the soil.
It's chilly outside today though...staying inside like a hermit...
Love,
Sandy

Re: Sandy's garden in pictures
That discoloured fence in the photos has bothered me for years. I was so happy our dear landlord gave us the okay to plant the long garden and cultivate Passion fruit vines in front of it. (he's such a great guy!) Sadly, we only have one passion fruit out of four vines... good thing we don't have to live off of what we grow! It's a learning experience for the two of us, especially me, who is unfamiliar with growing veggies in this climate. I'm "livin and learnin" in all ways it seems. What a wonderful little surprise! I feel like I've been on a little trip to visit the Barnards!
Love,
Sandy
Just beyond that fence is a big ole lake and lots of water birds.

((((((((T))))))))
I've been away and am actually in the US right now attending my son's wedding. (Well, getting ready to attend ) But I saw your face and wanted to say hi. You know, I was just a tad homesick for George and home tonight so glancing at these pictures of my yard and garden was just what I needed. Thanks for bringing them up again.
We're good G and I and I hope that you and your husband and four legged family are great too!
Love,
Sandy

That's just how I always imagined your garden Sandy, just a tad smaller.
Goes to show your descriptions of things is very clear!

I guess there's a reason for everything, then, even the choice of where to start posting up messages again after being away for a bit! ;-) (((SANDY))) I'm very glad to hear that you're getting ready to attend such a happy occasion! Congratulations to you and your family on this momentous occasion.Sandy wrote:((((((((T))))))))

We're doing very well, despite the government shut down situation affecting his work a little bit at this time. We're also waiting on the news about his upcoming new location. We're set to move in the spring. (It would explain why I was getting a lot of "808" type of prompts lately! I had a quick look and the meaning from Doreen Virtue applies to the situations we're facing right now.)
Take care and travel back home safely when the celebration concludes!
