I loved this...but I must admit at being terrified of what the outcome might be as early in the writing I had become attached to the subject of this one. Don't want to be a spoiler.
It reminds me of the beautiful " The Little House" book by Virginia Lee Burton.

I had the same momentary flash of doom. Then I remembered that Stuart never writes 'Bambi' stories. He is notable for heartwarming tales.
