Male and female are biologic sexes. People who undergo these sex changing surgeries are referred to as transsexuals.

Gender is a social construct. A transgender person is someone who doesn’t feel that they fit into societal expectations of how a male or female should act, think, and feel.

While you are correct in saying that there are only two sexes, this does not disprove the theory of gender fluidity. The transgender philosophy is that masculinity and femininity is a spectrum. And a person’s sex doesn’t necessarily match the gender that they identify with.

I think that transsexuals are the extreme cases. The idea that they feel like they need to correct this implies that they see it as a problem, when perhaps it really isn’t. If society changed the way it views this issue and became more accepting of transgenderism, these people might be more accepting of their bodies and not feel that they have to fit the mould. It seems a person could live a much happier life with a fully functional reproductive system. But that’s just my own thoughts on the matter.

Also, this isn’t anything new. I’ve read that Joan of Arc was quite masculine and wore men’s clothing.

just observing sexuality stays binary regardless of gender perception.

"Societal expectations" seem to be the ultimate cause of gender dysphoria,
suggesting that expectations are unrealistic relative to gender perceptions.

Considering the brain is wired for normal function of birth anatomy
and that this wiring does not change because of gender perception,
correcting societal expectations seems the better solution.

Apparently, as well known collections of differences,
humans remain male or female despite gender perceptions ...
and this brain wiring does not change (yet) with sex surgery.

Of course, if a male's brain can be proven to host
a female's collection of differences (despite male anatomy),
then a certain gender perception might be supported.
