A Child in the Dark

I wish my words could wash away your tears.
I wish upon a star that has held you so long.
I wish my stretched arms could console your given form.
I wish under the moon of waning face.
You wish under a night glowing with charm.
You wish my words could reach upon welcoming ears.
You wish under a moon rising in triumph high.
You wish my arms could warm your trodden form.
Again I whispered nothings of sweetness.
Again I rose above the midnight stars to sing.
Again you wished upon this blackened form of mine.
Again you whispered for another chance.
Never again do I speak of leaving.
Never again do I let go of your stretched arms.
Never again do you speak of your loneliness.
Never again do you wish in the night.
