DEX & Dexter

I bought a Dexter pencil sharpener on Thursday that was made between 1920 & 1940 (guesstimate.)
Tonight while I was in a drive-through the two cars in front of me had license plates with the suffix of DEX (121 DEX / 039 DEX.) My cost was $3.22, and the time was 8:22
It is a synchoncity, but I am not sure for what other than an older professor who used to call me Dex and Dexter by mistake.
It works sort of like the 11:11 but I think it is more specific to something I know.
Just thought I would share this.
Lots of 44's this week... On Thursday I was driving and I had to turn around so I went around the block and popped back out on the same street going the other direction only to have two cars pull out in front of me. One plate was 044 the other ended in 444 (At the same time!!!)

2 more DEX license plates today, and my uncle died last night.
Lots of 555/333/2222 today.

Hi Flint,
I'm sorry to her about your uncle's passing.
Wow, now that is an odd series of events...Dex is not a real common name, I would think, on a license plate. Gotta mean something along with the sharpener...sounds like you are getting some ideas...keep figuring

I suspect it will be obvious to you eventually.
May I ask you what prompted you to buy this antique pencil sharpener in the first place other then it is probably made better then anything we could possibly buy today? Are they collectables and "rareish?"
Love,
Sandy

This is probably going to sound sort of weird, but I collect pencils and pencil sharpeners.
I have a nice collection of Venus drawing pencils that I use to draw with. There is something different about the way they feel (to me.) and they look cool. Anyway, finding a great pencil sharpener that wont tear up the lead or shred the wood in a fashion that exposes too much lead seems to be difficult to find. A lot of finger sized sharpeners cut the pencils to stubby like golf pencils and they tear up expensive charcoal pencils (Like French Conte' crayons that come in pencil form.) It is sort of like buying cheap Chinese knock off tools instead of the original solid machined tools. While you save money on the front end with the tools, you end up tearing up your project that costs you more money in the long run. So, in my case, I buy good solid drawing tools, & I don't want to buy some hunk of cheap junk to maintain them.
A contemporary pencil sharpener I have is a solid brass sharpener that look ls like an oversized thimble. It is a recreation of an older sharpener of the early 1900's. (It is about the size of a .50 caliber bullet slug, and they call it a bullet sharpener.)

I like these so much I have four of five of them just encase...
The Dexter sharpener was sort of a spontaneous find. The handle is wood, and the body is cast metal, (It doesn't look like iron, but it is heavy like cast iron.) The shaving housing is Bakelite. It hardly looks used and I have not tried to sharpen anything with it yet. the great part about the sale was that they gave it to me for about $2.00... Anybody familiar with Berol colored pencils might be familiar with the Berol-Dexter pencil sharpener.
One of my other great finds are a lead pointer. What was great was that I knew exactly what it was and they didn't so I got it for a about $1.00 and the sell for $60.00 to $100.00 on E-bay depending on the condition... They don't make the lead pointers anymore (not out of cast metal... everything is made in China out of cheap plastic.) Anyway, it is a drafting tool for the old school architects who still used pencils.
I surround myself with these things in my studio because I am either familiar with them or I have a an affinity for well made things. I am not really into selling them, but I guess I could if I had to. Having these small things in my studio are like gems. You wouldn't know their value unless you collect them or you wouldn't know their REAL value unless you used them. So I have some fun collecting and using stuff like this.
*********
My uncle had an aneurysm he was lifting weights the the day before he kicked the bucket. (Note to self; lifting weights after age 75/80 is not a great idea.)
**********
The Dexter Dex thing only reminds me of one of my art professors... so maybe it has to do with art. (It wouldn't surprise me. I've been slacking, but really wanting to get creating again.)
Looks like I went overboard on talking about pencil sharpeners!

You know...It does makes sense, as you described it, collecting sharpeners in your line of work! I was one a dabbler in the artistic side of things and had some lovely pencils that I adored..One bad pencil sharpener nearly ruined one of my favorites .

And I found out the hard way that a good brush created for the particular stroke needed was worth any amount of gold. LOL Having the right tools is half the battle...The other half, though, your artistic ability and creativity counts plenty too though.

NO worries on that end for you, though!

You know, I was wondering if you were working on anything lately when I wrote my last post.

Yep..maybe it means "get crackin!"

Enjoy that gift of yours!"
Love,
Sandy

I'm getting read to create something... The last few days have been distraction after distraction.
I have been having pieces of it appear in my dreams and in my meditations... and daily thoughts.

George received a message last night from the celestial artisan, Athena and I thought of you and our friend Amigoo... all our "artsy" friends. It was good to speak with her again.

At 2:22 today I was checking my e-mail that have 2222 messages and my junk mail had 22 messages.
I think this was confirmation about the "tree circle."

Ha, that's very ironic, as i was thinking about Athena too on that day and wishing she would show up in my life and give me some creative inspiration..
Much love
