city of Camden is in the process of removing its Christopher Columbus statue
 Who knew :?: :!:
It's not necessary to rewrite history in order to move forward! ;)

 Who knew :?: :!: (one more before the soap box is yanked away ; - )

Tearing down old statues for these reasons is blatantly vindictive -
just build new and when that time is right, quietly retire the ol' symbol.
Of course, vindictiveness can have therapeutic value.

Re: https://disrn.com/news/christianity-tod ... not-enough

"Dalrymple also referenced the story of Zacchaeus, in which the unscrupulous tax collector, upon meeting Jesus, promised to 'give half of my possessions to the poor' and make reparations to those he had cheated (Luke 18:8)."

 However, Jesus counseled only individuals (at their request) on how to rectify such perceived problems - Jesus never counseled groups on such matters and never preached about group atonement for the sins of the group's ancestors. If the membership of an individual church desires to pay "reparations" to the community, that is the business of that community church. But to call such funds "reparations" creates monumental precedence for all of humanity's sins of the past. (IMO)

the CHAZ autonomous zone sign: "You are now leaving the USA."

"The Impossibility of Reparations ... How would it work?"

 This article's suggestion that reparations might be "hush money" is intriguing
since clamor for atonement payment will end and future generations of all races
will be paying the massive debt created by such reparations (essentially,
redistribution of the nation's dwindling wealth).

:bana: Guess what :?: :!:
Bankers are the real winners of this new debt service. ;)

"In 2018, U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistic reported truck driving as the most deadly job in the country."

 Maybe police can earn money with private protection of the truckers ...
but trucking costs may go up a bit, then be passed on to consumers. :(

Re: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/arti ... tones.html

"Band-Aid announces inclusive new line of bandages to match a range of different skin tones' "

 What would be more impressive (and timely for a weakened economy)
is duct tape with different tones/textures specifically for old shoes ...
like shoes for yard work, painting, and similar tough jobs. ;)

:bana: Faux alligator shoes might be popular on Florida's golf courses!
(for greens maintenance crews that need to defend their turf while working) :o
Or faux paint-splattered shoes to "prove" that you're already on the job
when askin' for a free drink at the clubhouse.

 Seriously ... decades ago at a South Florida beach hotel I helped
wrap an old concrete fence with gray duct tape, then we painted it white.
Interesting summer job, probably for marketing photos. Of course,
wind and moisture from nearby waves soon de-'fun'ded that labor
(made the work seem useless, but we got good pay!) :roll

the virus’s spread and the sometimes deadly COVID-19 illness it causes than social distancing and stay-at-home orders."

 A good mask helps prevent an infected person from spreading the virus by cough, sneeze, or even breathing ...
and suggests that "at risk" people should shop only at stores that require (and enforce) customers to wear masks
as well as maintain social distance within the store. ;)

"This U.S. city is looking to cancel rent for tenants hit hard by COVID-19 pandemic"

 The easiest way to comprehend this impact on landlords is to imagine that you rented a room in your house

you if they cannot afford it ... but they may continue to live in that room.

after apparently finding him asleep behind the wheel of his car in the drive-thru line of a Wendy’s restaurant."

"The officers administer several field sobriety tests, and the bodycam image clearly shows
a breathalyzer registers a blood alcohol level of .108. The legal limit is .08." :o

"Officers pursued Brooks on foot and, during the chase,
Brooks turned and pointed the Taser at the officer." :(

 The motivation for the officer to respond as trained?
(when an offensive weapon is pointed directly at them) ...
also hinting that, while the training is technically correct,
it's not "politically correct" for current tensions.

indicator that this virus, known to be harmless in the vast majority of cases, is neither especially unique nor especially dangerous."

 Such studies fail to acknowledge that this virus, while "not especially dangerous" to many people,
is especially dangerous to some ... considering very expensive hospitalizations, overwhelmed crematoriums,
and mass graves recently dug! And these are significant societal costs that are eventually shared by all

Re: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/pol ... 456749002/

"At issue: the text of a 1964 civil rights law barring employment discrimination based on sex, and whether that term should be understood to include sexual orientation and gender identity."

:bana: It's remarkable that the Court would comment on "gender identity" since this ruling now seems extendable to the current 64
(and all other identities yet to be discovered): https://www.healthline.com/health/different-genders
