"But the projections make clear that these reopenings come with fatal risks." :o

 All the facts about this virus make it clear that, until society has sufficient immunity, it will keep spreading ... especially without meaningful social distancing (and masks, etc.). A tolerable societal goal, apparently, will be to keep the severe complications from overwhelming local medical resources. And if you're "at risk", do according to your confidence and desire to survive.

However, there is increasing agreement that this virus accidentally escaped from this Wuhan research.

"The worst-case scenario – a more lethal resurgence this fall and winter – is based on the Spanish flu outbreak a century ago, when a small wave hit in early 1918, followed by a huge spike that fall and a third major wave in early 1919.

Studies suggest social distancing measures had worked against the 1918 epidemic until they were hastily lifted by some cities, like Denver, in early celebrations. Instead of continuing to 'flatten the curve,' these cities experienced a second spike in cases."

 While history suggests that another wave or two should be expected (the nature of a virus pandemic), modern medicine and testing should be able to anticipate this and, at least, prevent Worse Wave III (WW III).

(that will remain at risk or worse during the latest compromise between better business and better health).
So, "at risk" includes age :?: :!: Just think younger ... and don't "act your age". ;)

 While important for everyone, quality masks may be more effective for preventing the spread of SARS-CoV-2 (aka "COVID-19")
than for preventing contraction of it. Consider: Eyes and face of a person wearing only a mask are also exposed in a "cloud"

Re: https://www.who.int/emergencies/disease ... -causes-it

"WHO has begun referring to the virus as 'the virus responsible for COVID-19' or 'the COVID-19 virus' when communicating with the public. Neither of these designations are intended as replacements for the official name of the virus as agreed by the ICTV: Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)” .
