"kamikaze academics"
An Australian professor, Dr. Peter Ridd, fired by his university for telling the politically incorrect truth, has coined a term that says it all. He calls it "Kamikaze Academics."

As explained by James Delingpole, "Kamikaze Academics will comprise professors like himself willing to get themselves fired for expressing opinions which go against the standard leftist narrative – and in doing so, expose how little free speech and diversity of thought there now is in academe."
This is the practical application of the teachings of Jesus, fleshed out here in the academic world. You speak the truth and live the truth, regardless of cost or consequences. In the process, you save your integrity even if you lose your job. As a result, you become free (in the words of Jesus, "you find your life").

In contrast, if you try to save your job and preserve your reputation, refusing to question false narratives and choosing to compromise your convictions for the sake of your career, you actually "lose your life." You become a slave to the system, a slave to peer pressure, a slave to the dollar, a slave to the approval of people, a slave to expediency rather than principle.

regardless of cost or consequences
 Not so difficult unless your family shares the consequences,
in which case a family decision probably maps the tolerable plan.
Of course, if you always "speak the truth and live the truth",
your family knew this even before becoming "family". ;)

Slammin' the slam, logically(?)

Re: "Impeached President Slams Impeached President" (a news headline)

 Logically, this suggests that both Presidents are topically neutralized
since one "For" vote" effectively cancels one "Against" vote.

"Governor Janet Mills’ decree states that 'front-of-house staff in restaurants who choose to wear face shields must now wear them upside down so that they are attached at the collar instead of the forehead, so that their breath is directed up, not down' "

 Logical, but insufficient: "What goes up must come down" ... even on top of those customers! However, strong AC intake above might carry the breath away (to other tables if air is not filtered). And continually breathing the same infected air (what stays in the cone) is not healthy!

Obviously, these cones go on top of head! ... when you're standin' in the corner at front-of-house.

"Bodybuilder ... reveals how he finally cleared up his skin"

 Caution: LOTSA pimple pictures but tolerable because of the good "after" pictures. 8)

"At the time, Brian, from San Diego, was eating four large servings of cottage cheese and drinking a gallon of milk every day in order to bulk up. Brian's doctor prescribed accutane, a controversial drug that is used to cure acne, however it had no effect on his skin. He decided to try cutting dairy from his diet and was stunned at how quickly his skin was transformed." :roll

 Apparently, a more complicated story than just cheese and milk since he was also consuming whey protein (popular with bodybuilding) ... and his final tips are part of his cleansing routine: "eradicating dairy from your diet, changing your pillowcases and bedsheets every night, increasing your water intake and quitting alcohol and smoking." ;)

 Best guess: Dairy in moderation is not such a problem for most people. However, that he's getting good vegan nourishment for bodybuilding indicates that such health is possible with a variety of plant-based foods ... but faux meat is not mentioned.

Another tip: Despite oft similar residence, a chicken is not "dairy". ;)

Undermining the business now seems unwise ... at least until jobs are more plentiful.

"William Shakespeare was 'undeniably bisexual', say researchers after analysis of love sonnets finds 27 addressed to men, 10 to women"

 Actually, Shakespeare's writing is "bisexual" (or whatever) since he is crafting by poetic word - his actual sexuality needs different evidence. Apparently, he crafted the fears 'n yearnings of both men and women since women were not permitted to perform in the theater. And males performing as women need this crafted guidance to convincingly display those anatomically-correct parts ... of poetic wordsmith. ;)

Re: https://www.cnn.com/2020/08/27/us/nba-m ... index.html

"The past four months have shed a light on the ongoing racial injustices facing our African American communities. Citizens around the country have used their voices and platforms to speak out against these wrongdoings ... Despite the overwhelming plea for change, there has been no action, so our focus today cannot be on basketball."

" 'Eighty percent of NBA players are Black men. We cannot love them for the joy and entertainment that they bring to the world, yet sit in silence and fail to use our platforms and resources to amplify their voices when they demand the justice and equality that America has promised us all, but denied Black people for too long,' the Lakers said."

:bana: The next step could be to not play a season - let the broadcast silence balance those entertained who "sit in silence". Further, all live entertainment perfomers should be allowed to join the protests and not perform (best announced days before scheduled entertainment). After all, why should televised national sports be the only venues for this group voice? Besides, the support might then shift from national competition to local community competition and benefit more young people, future leaders of the country. 8)

:finger: At least, this would be a worthy experiment (cancel professional sports); the new generations will soon be prepared to act with justice and equality long before the older generations are able to change. Realistically, professional sports will not be cancelled but fans could shift their support to local community (college level and below) where they can make a difference much sooner! ;)

"In the future, the new frontier of activism opened by these recent boycotts will likely continue. By threatening to withhold the very sport they represent, NBA players have made it clear how much is at stake in their calls for racial justice; how much they will risk to have them heard."

:sunflower: Good discussion about why the NBA, in particular, is more involved with social justice ...
and "threatening to withhold the sport they represent" hints where fans can go during withholding:
community level sports (non-professional).

 Professional sports (with so much media presence) can be where activism has loud voice,
but community sports (with only local media presence) can be where change really occurs. ;)

De-fund Professional Sports!
 Not so controversial, considering that hijacking of Professional Sports for activism
effectively points to a solution where change can occur: community-level sports. :roll

And COVID-19 financial recovery - worldwide - will require funding diversion to venues
where needed most! A decade of less "Commercial Sports" would then be followed
by new "Professional Sports" where such activism is no longer necessary. :finger:

Re: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/28/busi ... tants.html

"I’m hungry for ritual. Every day, I get dressed, put on shoes, make coffee, pour it in a mug and tell my two housemates that I’m heading to work and will see ’em later. Then I walk in a few circles and settle in at a desk in the corner of our living room, just a couple feet away. This is my deranged coronavirus commute and it’s how I help my bleary mind realize that the workday has begun."

:hithere Rigid daily ritual is not necessarily what everyone wants (some ritual is tolerated because the day stays organized for better productivity), but this article highlights that work and play can (should) be restructured at times to better serve personal, family, and community needs.

For example, on weekends you may prefer to make coffee, pour it in a mug, take some sips to awaken ...
then get dressed (diabetics are advised to at least put on shoes to start the day).

Re: https://www.city-journal.org/nba-mlb-bo ... ves-matter

"Former New York Jets defensive lineman Michael Faulkner, now a pastor at a Harlem church, has similarly criticized the direction that violent protests have taken under BLM. 'It infuriates me as a Black man, a father and as a minister that radicals are inciting or condoning riots in my name and in the name of our struggle,' Faulkner recently wrote. 'Breaking into a department store or throwing objects at police officers, many of whom are Black or Brown, isn’t a protest against racial injustice; it’s criminality.' "

"Up until recently, sports united people of different political persuasions. Now, we have whole leagues embracing questionable political messages designed to offend and alienate large segments of the target audience. The economics of (professional) sports may never be the same."

 Finally, that there are limits to protest becomes a louder voice :!:

"It is not our place to become prophets of disaster but, in your future, we can foresee a time of scarcity, troubles, and hardship."

 Apparent bottom line: The good ol' days have passed - quickly adapting to what's essential for survival is wise.
Preparing now to "downsize" in all ways possible should help the future be more tolerable ... even pleasant! :finger:

This also hints that post-high-school education needs be more practical (include "trade" skills) and be more distributed (learn what's necessary as needed, but plan on a lifetime of learning). Besides, this year's shift to "virtual classrooms" already makes continual learning possible! 8)

 Who can tell?! A four-year degree may soon become less important than documentation of continual learning. Surprise! Counselors, administrators, facilities, resources, etc. will be needed for this new education paradigm. :roll
