"A group of sunbathing nudists in the Czech Republic were recently told they needed to cover up ... While they were completely free to remain nude, local ordinances required that they keep their mouths covered due to the global coronavirus outbreak."

 With such health concerns, sunglasses should be required to block UV rays. 8)
And a long tie is often recommended to avoid extreme sun exposure.

Good update on COVID-19, explaining why social distancing is working,
but society at large will need significant immunity (via exposure/recovery
or vaccination) to prevent more transmission of the virus. ;)

:sunflower: New conjecture about COVID-19 ...

Our evolutionary immune systems are probably designed to be aggressive in their first response
to a new virus in order to protect the species (humans). That some humans would not survive
such aggressive response seems good example of Darwin's "survival of the fittest" observation. ;)

 Also, flu viruses - worldwide - are common enough now
that only tweaking of vaccines is necessary in some years.

 The wide spread of a cough, increased by a building's (or transportation vehicle's) air conditioning, suggests that very few people have avoided this virus in most cities. Perhaps, viral load (quantity of virus particles inhaled during exposure) is what effectively determines one's immune response. And this hints that a small viral load, where people develop few or no symptoms, might help create their immunity. 8)

contemplating bias and propaganda Re: World Views

Post by happyrain »

just three examples of how wikepedia is bias, using choice words when opposition is needing to be presented to its audience or discrediting alternative medicine like ayurveda calling it a pseudoscience(discrediting its heritage and the thousands of ayurvedic schools that exist today). with the emergence of 5g people are beginning to look into electromagnetic hypersensitivity- something wikepedia says has no basis in science despite documents researching and concluding the effects of electromagnetic radiation as far back as 1970 made readily available. similarily when a journalist like james o'keefe is presented, someone who challenges official(mostly US) news narratives, wikepedia again uses choice words- they tell you his political affiliation(without verification), label him a conspiracy theorist and spend the first half of the page discussing a legal court battles he's faced all meant to create further talking points that attack his character. see for yourself. one of the biggest news stories for 2019 released from project veritas(james o'keef's organization) was the leaked footage of ABC shutting down their own reporter who wanted to bring allegations made against jeffrey epstein to light. wikepedia doesn't even mention it. major 'all encompassing' companies like facebook or youtube work hard to scrub and curate their platforms.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electroma ... ensitivity
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ayurveda
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_O'Keefe

what i see are facts mixed with opinion- 95% truth 5% manipulation. such is the case with google(who owns youtube)... it's not that these organizations have not done any good but something peculiar is standing out. something that happens over and over again. greed takes precedence over truth. some companies are trying to become the pillar for a new age and we see how their influence reaches the scientific and political communities or vice versa. i believe the rise in technological advancement is like a double-edged sword and the attack on information has been made more apparent as we become even more connected.

"There is no formal peer review on Wikipedia, but in my opinion, less formal crowd sourcing has proven effective in creating a remarkably useful free reference work. Many of the references cited in Wikipedia articles on academic topics are peer reviewed. Good Wikipedia articles will summarize what a wide range of experts say on a topic. A Wikipedia article should be considered an introductory overview of a topic, and serious students should delve much more deeply into what truly reliable sources say about a topic." - Jim Heaphy, Wikipedia administrator

 This is my experience with Wikipedia (a good starting point for research, but only one of many sources required to confirm facts).
A good example (counterpoint to "5G and coronavirus"):

Re: https://www.theverge.com/2020/4/9/21214 ... s-internet

"None of the conspiracy theories that try to link 5G and the coronavirus even make sense. The virus is spreading in countries without access to 5G, the frequencies from 5G can’t harm your body, and COVID-19 is caused by a contagious virus that is in no way related to electromagnetic waves. Even the general correlation between 5G and COVID-19 doesn’t stand up to scrutiny: they’re both global phenomena happening at roughly the same time, but as soon as you look at specific countries, the correlation falls apart."

Good interview, emphasizing that this virus is unlike yearly flu viruses and even unlike other coronaviruses (SARS, MERS). That some people have severe symptoms and that many with no (or few) symptoms can easily share the virus stress that indifference is not community-helpful. And how an immune system - for any age - will respond is still unpredictable :!:

 Of course, being confined to a basement seems counter productive,
especially when sunlight and fresh air are known to help disease recovery. ;)

 This seems subtle reminder that the virus (any virus) is not quickly eliminated but becomes well-controlled by one's immune system. Where this coronavirus seems to be re-emerging might be indication of poor testing of recovery or that some immune systems have not yet established firm control (virus starts replicating again). Hopefully, future antibody testing will clarify what really defines recovery. :finger:
