Current news hints that airborne virus is more problematic than what is touched or consumed.
This might be the result of the body's major immune response to the virus as breathed
(hinting that dormitory-style beds in cramped quarters are ideal for sharing infection).

Best guess: Good masks* as well as properly filtered air are needed most,
with serious hygiene to support the attempted prevention.

* even eye protection seems important since viruses
thrive in warm moist places.

An occasional slice of raw ginger in hot green tea is soothing.
Garlic and natural vitamin C are recently touted as preventive
(try Hot 'n Garlicky Chicken Soup with lotsa fresh veggies).

Perhaps, a nutritionally-balanced small bowl of similar soup
may be a daily requirement when out & about during flu season.
Perhaps, a daily offering by family style restaurants.

A refrigerated pot of cooked Garlicky Veggie Base (GVB) & broth
makes daily servings convenient! (add cooked protein when heating).
Serve with slices of raw lemon and orange.

True story ...

At age seven I began living in my second foster home. Since I had been previously isolated from typical domesticity,
I didn't know "dust pan" when my foster mother asked me to bring it to her. I reasoned that a pan that could hold dust
was what she wanted. When I brought it to her, she yelled "Turn around! I'm going to whoop your beep-beep!"

Thinking that I should have brought the beep-beep with the pan, I ran back to look for the beep-beep.
When she began chasin' me around the kitchen I slowly surmised that I already had a beep-beep ...
and that the pan was not big enough for the dust.

True story ... with late adult hindsight.
