Hi Rod,

It's so heart breaking the horse deaths.
Do you remember the much touted race back in the late seventies between a mare and a stallion that sort of became a male female competition with all the humans. There was quite the build up and then much to everyone's horror the mare broke her leg during the race but wouldn't stop trying to run. I was traumatised for years and even now cry as the remembered image come back o me.
This week here in Australia footage has come out of former race horses being sent to the abattoir. (slaughterhouse) Quite upsetting actually...let's just throw them away when they are no good for running. grrrrr I thought it would affect the big horse races over the week end and a fair few people would stay away..but no... they still strolled in in their finest. In interview several said they just wanted to have fun.

I guess it is a complicated issue but to see these beautiful once pampered beasts being beaten and shocked and so afraid.
God, it was awful! And I have another dreadful image that I can't get out of my head.

Bone studies of wild horses vs racing horses might reveal that race horse breeding/care is the primary cause
of horse bone fractures (that typically occur during the stresses of racing). And wild horses do lotsa racing.

On the bright side, many horse lovers are involved despite any errors in "the system".

True story: The daughter of my neighbor a few decades ago, used the investment inheritance from her departed mother
to buy a small ranch south of Fort Worth where she rehabilitates abused horses.

Well ... it works for some people ... with certain donors ... but seems to require more research.
Perhaps the type and quantity of each bacteria (from donor) needs to complement (or overwhelm) existing bacteria (in recipient).
And prebiotics (food for beneficial bacteria, especially fiber) may be just as important as probiotics (including fecal transplants).

Also, not all bacteria in the colon is beneficial (but well-controlled by the good (stuff) in healthy people) ...
and some nutritionists claim that a good diet is sufficient for beneficial bacteria to dominate.
