Oops! Not so clean green energy!
... not to mention standard roofing materials that might have to be replaced
because solar panels are bolted to the roof (makes holes in the roofing).

Solar farms are more practical and less destructive to home roofing.
A home owner would invest in the farm to receive the energy benefits,
since there are ways to measure electricity added to "the grid".
