Continuing the "miscellaneous as it gets" ...

:shock: Did you know that in countries where the elderly are permitted to go to the front of the line for service in public places, the younger generations are often supportive of this law as long as the "only two at a time rule" is enforced.

You see, two elderly customers usually don't want to be the oldest person at the front of the line, so they argue about who's the youngest ... and soon move to the back of the line to prove that they're not that old. But three elderly at the front would let one person quietly step aside from the argument and stay at the front. And did you know that this is not true? :roll:

As we get older it is not uncommon for joints in our leg and muscles and "what nots" in our back to ache and hurt. This can be exacerbated by standing still while waiting in a line. I think it is a wonderful law, unwritten or not, that allows those who are infirm or elderly to jump to the front. Yet, I can also see a younger person's concern as should there be a "herd" of elderly, one may never get their business accomplished. :shock:

The last time we were at a Center link office we were thrilled to see a new system in place...
When one arrives he or she is greeted by an employee standing behind a computer, whose job was to sort people by need and place their names in a Que for service. This allows the actual person to have a seat in what I must say, is the most comfortable upholstered chairs, until their turn arrives for service.

This system helped George immensely as he was not all that steady on his feet after his illness and hospital stay. So even though I haven't been a huge fan of Centerlink and their inept filing system over the years...well done on this count!

According to my friend in Finland, the "go to the front" is law in some countries (for some public services and stores) - my contemplation about arguing is just humor, having observed that she, an elder, was healthier than some "youngsters" in some lines.

8) This was good mental exercise when I realized that there are many reasons besides health that one should be advanced to the front of a line; urgency of service in order to return to a critical situation, for example. The triage that would promote this kind of efficiency would be difficult to administer (midwayers could help) since the urgencies are so variable and dynamic.

LOL: A good starting point for this experimental social triage would be to assess urgency of bladder complaint for queues at restrooms. A through-clothing sonogram of one's bladder with a portable device might be convincing. :roll:
