6 Photographers Shoot The Same Guy — told different stories

Post by Welles »

This may be as miscellaneous as I've ever posted but I thought it was both fascinating and important considering our lives are awash in imagery. This article with an embedded video details how six different photographers interpret a single person's image. The twist. Each are told different back stories. So the salient question becomes, is a photograph shaped more by the person behind the camera than by what’s in front of it? Be sure to watch the video!

I couldn't have imagined before seeing this article, photographs and short video how differently each photographer viewed the same man. I mean, he wore the exact same clothes and used the same props and yet the feel of the man in the six different photographs is completely different.

Do you think people do this on a non photographic level as we go through our days and from the imagery our mind takes in we create the story, rightly or wrongly on any given subject? It does explain how people can see something, being it an individual, subject or experience, in completely different light...we perhaps take in only one part and it becomes the whole for us. Oh dear...I'm not sure what I am trying to say.

Anyway, this is really fascinating... Thanks Welles! :sunny:

I think you are exactly right, Sandy. I'd say another example of our story creation skill becoming an important component in how we view reality is to take one event seen and then described by six different people. There may be some congruence in the stories but the often you can barely tell the people were viewing the same incident.
