What a rabbit taught me about being an empath — by Trinity

Post by Welles »

This article is sort of a one page "Kinship With All Life". It is a beautiful first person story about being taught spiritual lessons by communion with living beings.

I really like this, it reminds me of an expeirence i had over the summertime.

I was walking down on Arcola Park with my dog. As i had reached the end of the only trail in the park (it opens up to a beach that leads to Lake Erie), my dog bolted away to the left of me, his leash reaching its end. So i slowly corralled him back while i walked forward to try and meet up with my pooch, making sure he still cant go forward because whatever he found, he was really trying to get at it.

What i found was really heartbreaking. It was a tiny rabbit laying on his side, his leg was mangled...but by looking at his wound, i could tell it wasnt done by my dog...it was old and trying to heal over. Either way, his little eyes were wide with terror as my dog was but a few feet from it, snarling and snapping. He's a little beagle/bassett mix, no matter how much i tried, you cant calm this kind of breed down until its out of its vision and scent.

So as im using one arm and holding my dog back, i put my hand over its belly and placed the little guy back on his feet, upright. It was stunned and it just started at me.....then slowly and tentatvly, he bounded away and i could have sworn i felt this "feeling" of thank you! the poor little guy couldnt get upright because of his leg.

Ever since then, i tend to go back by myself...and when i do, something extrodinary happens. Ive never seen rabbits as i walk around in the park...i may see one but its always a fleeting glance as they run away. After i helped the rabbit flee from my last visit, my future visists to the park has rabbits bounding around everywhere now, with no fear of me anymore. I would see them in the pathway far ahead of me, sometimes three or four of them froclicing around. Even as i approach, they would still continue to "socialize" on the path or on the edge of the forsest/marsh. Not until i get within a few feet does instinct kick in and they flee...but now...i see the little guys all the time, its like theyve accepted me...does that sound weird? Or does our natural perception of natures animals as "dumb beasts" need to be seriously reviewed??

Hi Jason,

That's a lovely story and, no it doesn't sound wierd. You became more attuned with one element of your natural world and it accepted you. It is simple, yes, but wonderful as well.
