Australia 1:0 Japan

Post by I-AM »

Australia has won the case against Japan regarding "scientific research" involving killing of thousands of whales each year.

Great job! :bana:

Naturally, folks at SeaShepherd are but ecstatic! :hithere

Hey, humanity is not THAT bad, after all... :bike:

I never knew we actually had a judge presiding at the International Court of Justice... 8)

International Court of Justice presiding judge Peter Tomka of Slovakia said Japan had not justified the large number of minke whales it takes under its program, while failing to meet much smaller targets for fin and humpback whales.

Isn't that the best news!!!!!
Thank you Sea Shepard for your diligent effort!!!!... and how cool is it that it was a Slovakian judge who presided over the court of Justice that delivered the much needed verdict! :D You must be very proud of this and your own efforts of support that helped enable this wonderful outcome for the whales in the Southern seas. Hopefully, this will be the last time any group or country will be able to use the guise of science as a mean to skirt laws and harvest whale species.
Thank you Robert! :sunflower:

Sandy

Sandy,

I read the court ruling a little bit. Those Japanese folks were truly trying to convince the judges that it indeed WAS a research activity. Unbelievable.

Killing 960 whales each year for science? To do what? Measure their fins and establish their sex? They needed to kill them for such "research"? While accidentally processing all the meat and selling it to Japanese retail chains? :?:

It's truly shocking isn't it? I cannot believe they got away with it for this long.... and it always gripped me too that they constantly tried to paint Sea Shepard as the bad guys when they, themselves, were the ones fishing illegally in protected waters.
I couldn't be happier by this outcome. :D :D :D
