Fires Of The Past

Fires Of The Past

Donning the cloak.
A thread bare mantel
stitched from the nettles,
shadows of my youth,

It's become clear
it must be shed,
left burning to ash
in the fires of the past.

Disappointment overtakes
recognizing the same mistakes.
made with the older generation,
repeated as well with the young.

Wanting and wishing,
doesn't make it be.
Can't force the feelings,
... set the bird free.

Song, 'Stay With Me'
prompted in my mind.
Not exact, but sentiment the same
If, “It ain't love,”
… then it's not enough.

Time for letting go,
of feelings lodged in echoes,
singed by embers,
hurt too long remembered.

If ever
to move forward at long last,
means relinquishing tethers
...to the fires of the past.

This poem is so beautiful and touching. As hard as letting go can feel...( I was reminded of this as I mentally baulked once again at the prospect) ... there is a valuable prize at the end... peace within :happy
Thank you, Kim... ((((((HUGS))))))

Sandy,
Letting go and baulking seem to go hand in hand.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! :sunflower: :cyclopsani: :sunflower:

LOL Oh I just had a thought related to the "letting go and baulking" comment. I was nodding in agreement when I remembered something I've often said. "I am a work in progress." Okay then then the sarcastic Sandy thought..."Yeah I feel sometimes like one of George's drying pots when the dung beetle hordes bored holes in them. :) (Yep, this was something that actually happened years ago when he was making pottery. )

Here's to the dung beetles of life and our ability to overcome and still turn out to be a pretty cool looking pot!

Sandy,
Why does that nasty sarcastic side of ourselves have to be lurking in the shadows? "Shoo! Shoo, sarcastic voice!" Breathing now, okay, "I AM ENOUGH... Not perfect, but in this moment, enough."

One of my favorite pots has holes in the side, we call those types, Strawberry Planters. The holes allow for extra plants to grow and bear fruit where normally it would simply be dark, moist dirt! For the rest of today I'm going to think of life's challenges as dung beetles. Thanks for the visual!

Sending much love, :loves
