Tip: This combo makes a good sauce base,
especially for many bean dishes! :roll

Re: https://cafedelites.com/mashed-sweet-potatoes/

"Sweet potatoes keep you full and are a great source of fibre. They contain a variety of vitamins and minerals
including calcium, iron, selenium, B and C vitamins, and the antioxidant beta-carotene. A low GI root vegetable,
sweet potatoes digest more slowly when compared to regular potatoes and release sugar gradually into bloodstream,
keeping blood sugar levels steady." :roll

 For Paleo presentation, scrub sweet potatoes, cut into chunks or slices,
then microwave in a covered container or steam on the stove.
Serve with olive oil or butter, S&P or brown sugar.
Peels can be eaten or slip off easily with a fork. 8)

 For Perky Paleo, serve over steamed leafy greens 'n onions
with a drizzle of olive oil, raw apple cider vinegar,
and a sprinkle of S&P - even garlic granules! ;)

"Ramsay’s eponymous burger joint, which will be located inside Harrods department store, promises to 'provide a taste of America, without the trans-Atlantic trip,' according to a statement, and serves up 'not your average quarter pounders.' Among these elevated sandwiches is the Wagyu burger, which reportedly features s beef patty, seared Wagyu sirloin, truffle Pecorino cheese, and fresh black truffles – all for $106.
Fries sold separately."

 Somehow, the $106 price reminded me that a slice of tofu,

"the processing of cocoa to make chocolate can substantially damage flavanols." :(

"It would be wonderful if a particular food or supplement could delay or prevent Alzheimer's disease ... but we do not have scientific evidence that these claims are true. We need randomized, controlled clinical trials to evaluate whether any of these foods or supplements has a scientifically proven beneficial effect ... people should not put too much stock in specific nutrients — including subsets of flavanols — for reducing dementia risk until more research is done. Rather, they should focus on eating an overall healthy diet." :o

"Using Edible Marijuana Responsibly", by Dr. Oz and Dr. Roizen, MDs

"The active drug in edibles takes up to an hour to kick in. People get impatient, eat more, and end up with an elevated heart rate, seizures, unresponsiveness, high blood pressure, and extreme emotional distress. And kids mistakenly 'snack' on edibles left lying around. Several in the Michigan study had to be intubated because of reduced heart rates and breathing problems."

"acute effects are on top of proven long-term inhibition of brain development in males younger than 21 and females younger than 18." :o

 Parental supervision still seems necessary in states legalizing marijuana ...
and kids can "supervise" their parents' weight gain by such edibles. ;)

Kitchen sink hack ...

 If a kitchen sink (or bath) mat develops mold, spraying with diluted bleach or mold remover is required.
However, if soapy sudsy water* is poured over the mat before spraying, the spray distributes better
as the sudsy water drains, often requiring less spray. 8)

* try a few drops of liquid soap in a pint of warm water;
rinse bath mat before next use. ;)

Baked Adzuki

Post by Amigoo »

Baked Adzuki

A simple "proof of concept" for baking adzuki beans.
Ready to serve as hot side dish or cool & refrigerate
for later use (even as a salad ingredient). 8)

:roll Ingredients:

1 rounded cup adzuki beans sorted & rinsed
2 quart baking dish, cold then lightly oiled
2 1/2 cups cool water
virgin olive oil for baking dish
sprinkle of garlic granules

 Directions:

Pre-heat oven to 325F degrees.

Gently pour cool water into baking dish,
then evenly distribute rinsed adzuki beans
and sprinkle water with garlic granules.

Loosely cover baking dish with foil,
then bake 3 hours (for al dente texture);
then gently stir once to distribute juice.

 Note: Cold baking dish and cool water
limit loss of oil from dish surface.

Re: Baked Adzuki - posting.php?mode=reply&f=47&t=25032#pr210040

 A real adzuki bean recipe, but requires a long pre-soak:
https://www.food.com/recipe/baked-adzuk ... oes-102980

Tip: I tried this pre-soak method several times in the past,
then stopped because beans lost color with the drained water
(and dark color is associated with more antioxidants).

Plan B: Add Baked Adzuki beans to pre-cooked ingredients. ;)

:study: (from today's email advertising)

"Too Many Eggs Increases Diabetes Risk", By Dr. Oz and Dr. Roizen, MDs

"research, published in the British Journal of Nutrition, found that people who ate the equivalent of about one egg a day boosted their risk for Type 2 diabetes by 60%. And even eating the equivalent of just under five eggs a week over the long haul upped the risk for diabetes by 25%. Women seem more affected than men. That may be due to the fact that egg yolk changes the bacteria in your intestine, triggering inflammation that disrupts glucose regulation. For some folks, it also increases bad LDL cholesterol. A diet rich in processed carbohydrates may amplify risk."

 Obviously, very isolated research, probably ignoring that people usually consume significant carbohydrates (bread, potatoes, etc.) when they consume eggs (often fried in saturated fat). However, "intestinal inflammation" is a good hint that diabetes may be associated with a person's microbiome* as well as the degrading islet cells in their pancreas (these produce insulin). In fact, this hints that improving one's microbiome leads to better health in general! :o

* https://depts.washington.edu/ceeh/downl ... obiome.pdf
"Fast Facts AboutThe Human Microbiome"

"The gut microbiome is different between obese and lean twins. Obese twins have a lower diversity of bacteria, and higher levels of enzymes, meaning the obese twins are more efficient at digesting food and harvesting calories. Obesity has also been associated with a poor combination of microbes in the gut."

"Type I diabetes is an autoimmune disease associated with a less diverse gut microbiome.
In animal studies, bacteria play a role in developing diabetes."

:study: Re: https://www.merckmanuals.com/home/disor ... deficiency
"Vitamin B12 Deficiency (Pernicious Anemia)"

"Unlike most other vitamins, B12 is stored in substantial amounts, mainly in the liver, until it is needed by the body.
If a person stops consuming the vitamin, the body’s stores of this vitamin usually take about 3 to 5 years to exhaust."

 This contrasts with all the advertising pushing Vitamin B-12 for older people!
(high-dose supplement seems unnecessary unless B-12 deficiency exists)

until you can walk on water, you have not identified your perfect diet; until you see someone walking on water,
no one else has the perfect diet! So keep obsessing. ... which somehow explains this quick & easy ...

Paced Cilantro
Combine 16oz jar Chunky Mild Salsa,
top of a bunch of fresh cilantro, diced,
1 med. sweet onion, diced,
and 1/2 tsp garlic granules.

Note: Pace is the salsa used to create the recipe. ;)

Holiday Apple-y Berries

:roll Combine 24oz jar natural applesauce (chilled), 1 tsp vitamin C crystals,
3 med. tart red apples (chopped), 10oz pkg aronia berries (frozen),
12oz pkg frozen cranberries (thawed & slightly crushed). ;)

 Directions:

Stir vitamin C crystals into applesauce,
then fold in remaining ingredients.

Press mixture into glass container with lid
and refrigerate until used.

 Tips: Freezing softens crunchy fresh cranberries.
Aronia berries stay more firm than blueberries.
