Australia Burns

While I'm sitting here cosy in my room in the middle of Winter in Japan my thoughts are with those affected by the horrendous bush fires back home in Australia.

As I write this, this is the damage so far -

24 people dead

500 million animals killed

8,000 Koalas killed

13,590,800 acres burned

1,400 homes destroyed

Please pray for all Australians that they be safe and this nightmare will soon end.

Shane

Hey Viv, Ruth and Shane,

Yep we are blessed to be in a pretty safe place next to Koona Bay. Feel better today after some cooling rain overnight. I think Geoff too is in a safe area there on the shores of Sydney. I hope to talk to him soon.
Other members...Dylan (runningscroll) is safe . He left Canberra for other parts of Victoria and is safe. Geoff, if you read this, how are your friends doing in Fitzroy Falls?

Shane I am glad to know you are safe in Japan. When do you return?
love and hugs everybody,
Sandy

Hi Sandy,

Glad to hear that you're all ok.

We arrive back in Melbourne on 5th Feb.

I can't even imagine what it's like.
Just reading about it on the internet is frightening enough.

0 degrees here this morning.

Those statistics I posted are truly horrifying aren't they?

I guess with the enormity of these fires it's surprising that not alot more people have lost their lives.

Lets pray it ends soon.

Shane.

It is raining again tonight, Shane. Not a lot but every little bit helps if for no other reason then to lift spirits. We all need that. You have no idea how good 0 degrees sounds to these displaced Northern Hemis ears.

The scariest day...I've lost track of exactly when...it was when the sky went red and dark at 4:00 pm. It was eerie and strange and as I said we were nowhere near the fires that generated the thunder storm. I kept thinking of a couple years ago when my grandson and I watched an Imax movie about weather at COSi Science Center in Columbus Ohio. He was fascinated with weather events back then.. But it was there through this film that I first learned of fire generated thunder storms and tornadoes. It was terrifying to see actual footage. And it is painful to think of our fireman experiencing such extremes as they work day in and day out to protect life and property. It truly is amazing that more people haven't died. Through it all, I am amazed by the Aussie spirit and generosity. I do not know where all this will lead but if any group of people can get through this, learn from it and make necessary changes it is the Australians.

Praying with you that it all ends soon.
xxSandy

Hi Shane,

Oh my! That is shocking! I knew it was bad but never dreamed so much all over the country. So much has been focused on the fires in NSW and Victoria that the fires in Queensland have not had a mention in days. I had almost forgotten. :(

As I'm typing it is almost 11:00 pm. The sky is rumbling and it has been raining hard for a half an hour. I am revelling in the cool breeze wafting in through the window.
Its answered prayers'for sure . :happy

xxSandy
