The coming cataclysm

Post by atsguy »

There have been a few posts on here about gaia, letting go and letting the forces of nature pretty much wreck havoc on earth.

Look at this cia document:

About the changing resonance of the earth's magnetic field(s).

Bottom line: Troubling earth changes might occur ... soon! :o

Speaking of "world turned upside down" ...

:( My old microwave suddenly stopped working - no symptoms! won't turn on any more! But instead of getting another, I'm going to see how to live without one for a week. Already, I can tell that I was very dependent on it for reheating food, coffee, and making tea ... and for cooking some veggies. :roll

 ... and this hints of good kitchen training for future interruptions of electricity. While ovens and stovetops are similar in function to non-electrical appliances many decades ago, a microwave is quite modern ... and requiring significant adaptation when gone! If you use one daily, try not to use it for a week to check your dependency on it ... and your ability to adapt without it. :finger:

Hi Rod,
The door on our microwave is starting to act up so we may be a short time away, like you, from the need to adapt to life without it. I suspect I would e surprised how much I depend on it. :(
Let us know how it goes for you. :)

1. Tonight, reheating a frozen slice of Pumpkin Muffin Log ...

Place heat deflector (metal plate) on top of stovetop burner,
top with a small sheet of foil, place frozen slice on foil,
cover with stainless dog's water bowl and heat on low.

A stovetop oven! (use gloves to remove dog bowl ...
and don't return to Fido until cool)

Tip: Heat deflector can also toast bread
(turn slice over to toast both sides).

2. This morning, reheating refrigerated brewed coffee ...

On a small stovetop burner, heat 1/4" of water in a small pan.
When steaming, pour in coffee and heat as desired
(steam is good indication of hot coffee).

Tip: Pre-heating of pan with small amount of water
works well for leftover food that was refrigerated :roll
(cover pan and heat food on low).

3. Last night, making a cup of green tea ...
Heat water in a kettle on the stove top. :duh

4. Months ago, melting a bar of chocolate ...

Pre-heat oven to 350F degreees.
Break bar into small pieces and place in oven-proof bowl.
Turn off oven, heat bowl until chocolate melts (about 15 min.)
Use gloves to remove HOT bowl!

Lesson: A microwave saves time, but not that much
(and was an unknown appliance for centuries) ;)

Another "workaround" ...

Store leftover, refrigerated food in a heat-resistant bowl, size relative to amount of food that will be served.
Place bowl in a steamer or double boiler, but do not pre-heat to avoid stressing a glass bowl, then heat
to desired temperature (a kitchen timer is useful for this).

A steamer can be used to heat dry food by sealing it in foil (double-fold edges).

A "double dog oven" ...

Stovetop "oven" stays hotter if two stainless bowls are used, one inside the other;
separate the bowls with slightly wrinkled foil to create insulating air space.
Caution: Do not let stovetop get too hot from the enclosed heat!

:study: Here's a good reference for the concept:
https://www.amazon.com/Omnia-Oven-stove ... B000YLJQ5U
"Designed to bake on any type of burner – gas, electric, kerosene, or camp stove – or even on a grill."

:bana: And there's an instant stovetop oven (to reheat dry food) ...

Place wrinkled foil in bottom of pan large enough to cover burner, place smaller flat sheet of foil
on top of wrinkled foil (to reuse this), place dry food on flat sheet and use lower heat setting
to slowly warm "oven". Metal or glass lids with a vent let steam escape. ;)

Obviously, a "stovetop oven" is best for reheating food - not baking!
(baking requires higher temperatures not appropriate for stovetops)

Regarding the "instant stovetop oven" ...

Medium slice of refrigerated Pumpkin Muffin Log heated in 15 min. (starting with cold pan).
A potholder placed on top of lid (not blocking vent) retained more "oven" heat.

 If reheating refrigerated brewed coffee ...

Brew coffee stronger; later, add boiling water from kettle to warmed coffee
(coffee does not re-cook and tastes fresher). :roll

Tip: For fresher coffee when refrigerating brewed coffee,
cool immediately after brewing then refrigerate.

 Regarding the microwave oven ...

Not even 24 hours and I decided that I've learned enough :!:
It is indeed possible to adapt to life without one ...
and I'll know what to do when this new one breaks.

Walmart's $50 compact is sufficient for the food/drink reheating
that I do every day (I rarely use the microwave for "cooking").
The convenience of reheating stuff was the selling point! ;)

Apparently, for emergency use ...
my 700W microwave oven can be powered by a 1200W AC/DC inverter
connected to a car's battery while the car is running, according to:
https://blog.donrowe.com/2014/08/20/pow ... icrowaves/
since oven's Input Power rating is 1050W.

The old microwave was interferring with my indoor TV antenna (on the wall in the next room);
the new microwave does not ... hinting that it was time to stop bathing in the radiation.

:o Regarding the microwave oven ...

:geek: A "pure sine wave inverter" (not "modified sine wave inverter")
is recommended for microwave ovens and many electrical devices. ;)

Many devices might run with a "modified sine wave inverter" (MSW)
but less efficiently, might overheat, and might be damaged
... according to an online review.

Another review mentioned that MSW inverters should be OK for appliances
with a heating coil (toaster, small hot plate) but no motor/electronics. :finger:

Sandy,

I could believe that a midwayer "pulled the plug" (internally) on it
since it would not turn on after last use (reheating cup of coffee)
... with no symptoms of any problem. :o

How do you like your new microwave? It took us awhile to get used to the new one. But you have to understand, I get attacjhed to things. (The movie, "The Brave Little Toaster" made me cry.

Sandy,

This compact microwave is just right for reheating food (my typical use of it)
and controls simple enough than a man doesn't need to read the instructions
(but I saved them for any ladies who may want them later).

Sample: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Dell-Lighter ... /401359372

 For laptop computers (typically under 100W), adapters permit a 12V Jump Starter to be used as DC power input.

There are many different adapters, so laptop's power/port specifications are needed to find the right adapter.
I found online what I needed by starting with my current AC-DC adapter: 19.5V, 2.31A, 45W, 3.0 x 4.5 mm plug ...
then searched online for "laptop car charger" (make sure adapter is for 12V DC input).

 Tips: Shop around - the prices for adapters vary considerably :!:
Jump Starter should have USB port(s) to power or charge other devices.
Linking to the internet is a different challenge (routers, etc. need power
... but a laptop's WiFi might connect to a local/business network). :finger:
... in a car, the car's 12v cigarette lighter port could be used).

 Final analysis of 12V inverters ...

Pure sine wave inverters (better, safer choice*) get very pricey over 300W -
knowing how you plan to use it is an important first step, especially since
cable size/length is critical and many devices use DC power already
(DC-AC-DC conversion is inefficient). ;)

* 150W is the limit of using an inverter with a car's cigarette lighter port,
else direct clamping onto the 12V battery terminals is required.

 A good focus is how to maintain a communcation system and
keep USB-enabled devices powered/recharged, with sufficient power
for lighting and computer peripherals (monitor, printer, router, etc.).

Beyond this, a fuel-powered generator becomes the better option.

Devices that might coordinate for a Plan ATC ...
(All Things Considered for minimum communication backup)

300W Pure Sine Wave Inverter: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07H32N3ZD/
12' cord for battery attachment: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07NRDHJZ2/
2-way splitter (for inverter + extra socket): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0738BHBX1/

Notes: The vehicle's cigarette lighter port is still available
and extra socket can be used for 12V adapter for laptop, etc.
... of course, vehicle engine may need to be running. ;)

Notes: Plan ATC is for 12V-120V power conversion with assumed
availability of cell phone, laptop, tablet, LED lighting, etc. :finger:

"Viva Veinte" (live 20 days independently) has a memorable sound;
a minimum survival plan to avoid panic immediately after a disaster.

After 20 days, organized government response should be available
to assist with more long-term survival. :finger:

Regarding Viva Veinte ...

The planning goal (concept) is to live "off the grid" 20 days - not live well, but survive well.
A week or two might be required for government assistance (supplies, etc.) to reach you.

A private network* of Viva Viente preppers should be helpful for both planning and
activation during an emegency; HAM radios are often included in such survival. ;)

* personal information (location, supplies, etc.) might need some secrecy
since the unprepared will easily overwhelm a single prepper ... :(
but might be helped via the network. :finger:
