Re: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/articl ... -five.html

"Compared to people getting seven hours of sleep, those who reported sleeping for nine hours made the same number of errors as people sleeping five or less."

 This article does not mention when the attempted memorization occurred (before or after sleep).
Nevertheless, short- vs. long-term memory is an important variable:

Re: https://science.howstuffworks.com/life/ ... emory2.htm

"Important information is gradually transferred from short-term memory into long-term memory. The more the information is repeated or used, the more likely it is to eventually end up in long-term memory. ... People tend to more easily store material on subjects that they already know something about, since the information has more meaning to them and can be mentally connected to related information that is already stored in their long-term memory."

 Also, a person's sleep cycles may affect short-term memory such that the brain is not fully memory-able immediately after fewer or more hours of sleep (than the theorized seven). And as the second article mentions, what is being memorized affects test results* (some people may remember the test material better than others ... regardless of sleep excess or deprivation). ;)

* This suggests that EACH person tested should be tested days apart for memorization both with sleep deprivation and with sleep excess.

 Speaking of sleep cycles ...

I discovered over many months that 1 hour 20 min. was ideal for my late afternoon nap -
just enough for rest and mental refreshing but not too much to disturb that night's sleep.
Also, if I get up too early in the day (before the final sleep cycle completed),
I stay groggy all morning. :(

Re: https://finance.yahoo.com/news/u-milita ... 20749.html

"A tender for the project, based at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, calls for screening messages from at least 200 million users from more than 100 countries in more than 60 languages to better understand 'collective expression.' Messages, including user names, will be examined for comments, metadata, location and hometown identifiers."

"The study’s purpose is to look at social-media messages posted publicly between July 2014 and December 2016 on a single platform, according to a solicitation request. No private communications will be included and individual users won’t be identified in the research, according to the Navy."

The subtlety of this news is that what has been posted - worldwide - to social media is long available for review! ;)
"Social media" probably includes email messages (archiving technology would be similar or the same).

 "individual users won’t be identified in the research" However "user names, comments, metadata,
location, and hometown" gets extremely close to identification of individual users!

 A personal name change (even gender identity!) when reaching adulthood might be required
to distance yourself from all the stuff you posted online as a child.

Re: https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/m ... le-to-male

The female-to-male transition seems more difficult since parts need to be added - not subtracted
... unless the uterus, etc., is removed.

 Perhaps, perceived gender is a brain wiring anomaly - not body anatomy anomaly. ;)
And (re: nature vs. nurture) maybe early nurture influences gender perception later.
Also, bone structure (e.g. pelvis) is designed to support "intended" gender. :?

"Harley-Davidson is one of the most iconic and valuable brands in the world. It is also one of the more masculine brands. The company has not deviated considerably from this fact, although it has tried. The company released Legendary Harley-Davidson, a cologne for men, among several other varieties, starting in 1994. Another perfume, Black Fire, hit the market as recently as 2005. All are now discontinued."

 A cologne that makes a man smell like they've been where they said they were is marketable:
smell like you were mowin' the lawn when you were at a neighbor's shootin' pool ...
or smell like salad and faux meat burger when you were gobblin' pizza ...
or smell like you had a hot date when you were playin' a video game ...
or smell like B.O. when your blind date needs to go home ...
or ... whatever.

Re: https://www.foxnews.com/health/study-li ... -poor-diet

"The study, conducted by the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts, analyzed cancer diagnoses among US adults from 2015 along with data from two national surveys on Americans’ diets to determine how many cases were linked to diets low in vegetables, fruits, whole grains and high in processed sugar, sugary beverages and red meats." :o

 While the percentages of types of cancer are small and relate to specifics of diet, the lesson is that improvement in diet can reduce the different types of cancer. Of course, other factors such as lack of exercise, limited sleep, and environmental toxins* promote cancer. :(
* electromagnetic radiation (cell phones, et al.) is now a known toxin, with chemtrails a newly conjectured toxin.

"An apple a day keeps the doctor away." :roll

 But not the cancer doctor, apparently, if those apple skins contain pesticide.
(not a problem decades ago when "apple a day" was conjectured). ;)

this would mean missing out on the nutrient-rich skin." :(

 Not mentioned in the discussion about apples is that fiber, significant in apples
but also available in many foods, helps the body eliminate toxins. ;)

Morning contemplation ...

 There's a subtle difference between "Never give up!" and "Never stop trying!"

"Never give up!" suggests exhausting struggle, whereas "Never stop trying!"
encourages consistent lifetime activity ... without "struggle". ;)

:bana: But still a good memory ...

My recently married wife learned about my insatiable curiosity* when I peeked under our bed before we stayed for the night at this hotel many years ago. I found a grandmother's jewel-studded gold ring, the jewels probably representative of her grandchildren. I immediately took the ring to the front desk and assumed that granny would get a ring. :finger:

* Curiosity well-tamed by my retirement years (I've seen everything! or can imagine it

About a Sleepy Time phone app ...

"(the app) would track the amount of time players spend sleeping and when they wake up. Both of those data points

The app, which is expected to launch sometime next year, 'aims to turn sleeping into entertainment'"

It remains a "mental health condition" if the transgender person cannot resolve their discomfort with this sex identity anomaly,
