The Invitation

Post by Geoff »

Oriah Mountain Dreamer ISBN 0-7225-4045-0

The book is based on a fabulous poem she wrote, which went around the world. Then she turned it into a book. It starts:
It doesn't interest me what you do for a living. I want to know what you ache for, and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart's longing.
It doesn't interest me how old you are. I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love, for your dream, for the adventure of being alive...
If you have been abused, this is a book that tells you you are ok. That others have been there, survived, and got strong. She has a concept of faithlessness, which takes some time to understand. But it is good. It says sometimes you have to let others down, to be true to yourself.

An awesome book.

Thankyou for this.

I discovered 'The Invitiation' poem several years ago and it is the one poem that I keep with me through thick and thin.
It described to me everything I aspire to and its so practical...living with spirit here, right now, on this earth plane.

I didnt even know Oriah Mountain Dreamer was still alive, so its wonderful to hear that she has a book.

Part of me is a little worried that reading the teachings behind it will take away from the simplicity of the poem that says everything, direct to the soul.

How did you feel about that Geoff??
Does it expand much outside of the territory of the poem?
Sorry for the inquistion, trying to work out if this is one for me or not.

I have to share more lines... ones that touch me so deep
I want to know if you can see beauty, even when it is not pretty, every day, and if you can source your own life from it’s presence.
I want to know if you can live with failure, yours and mine, and still stand on the edge of the lake and shout to the silver of the full moon, ‘Yes’

Hi Helen,
Does it expand much outside of the territory of the poem?

Well I don't think prose can match the power of that poem, but yes, I think it's a great book. The bit that really blew my mind, was "faithlessness". She really has an original thought there. She is saying, sometimes you have to let people down, to be true to yourself. Amazing. Don't get guilty about it, be true to yourself. She is not talking about trivial stuff, or being selfish.

She has lots of stuff that tell you WHY she has such power. That girl has known real pain.

Much love,
Geoff.

Sounds right up my street. So, it's called The Invitation? Can I get it at Amazon, 'cause Cardigan has many second-hand book stores but not a lot of (if any) of the books I want.
Thanks for bringing this thread back MorningLight.
