I thought that I'd mention this book, What Dreams May Come, by Richard Matheson. It's a novel but to create it, the author had done research and provided a bibliography. The book was published around 1978, according to Wikipedia. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/What_Dreams_May_Come)

I read this book either before or after seeing the film that was based on it, but I loved the book. I keep recommending this book throughout the past ten years and counting, with mixed results from those that become familiar with it. Someone whom I used to be very close with (not because of this book, though) decided to bash it, saying that the author was afraid of dying and didn't know what he was saying; while another has likened the story to the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, which is another story that I also love.

Has anyone else ever read this? What are your thoughts? If you haven't read it, try to pick up a copy and see if you like it. Richard Matheson is a writer of other short stories and novels, as well as scripts for the show, "The Twilight Zone," and mostly wrote stories that fit into the genre of horror literature.

I do agree! I loved the movie. The visuals were so lovely. When I read the book, I thought it was vastly different from the movie but it was excellent in its own way, too. I did read that the author did not really like the movie adaptation himself, but really, can't please everyone, right? Besides, who knows, someone might remake it in a different way in the future.

I have seen the movie twice. The first time was many years ago, then it seemed to me just a good sci-fi movie. Last year I saw it again and this time I felt completely different about it. After reading M.Newton's books, R.Monroe's books, and Holographic universe, I am able to feel the deepness of the idea behind the movie. It is really great.

I loved the movie and also had no idea a book was created first. I will have to put it on my birthday list.
