-On the Mechanics of Consciousness
author: Itzhak Bentov

Has anyone else read this book? I read it years ago and recently re-read it because I just think it is really interesting. It is also filled with little hand-drawn illustrations, which help me because I am a very visual thinker.

I think it is sort of along the lines of the holographic universe idea, and also talks about the evolution of consciousness. He compares his diagrams of consciousness with diagrams of the universe and it all is a mirror image of an egg, sorta. LOL, I'd be a terrible book reviewer, wouldn't I? Anyway, I just wondered if anyone else had read it and could relate to the visual representations in the book?

Hello Ella,

I have the book, I've skimmed through it but have not read it cover to cover...yet. There was a drawing of that 'egg' that was familiar to me. In fact, I was just thinking of that book just a couple of days ago...I was planning on digging it out of my stack and taking a look at those drawings again . I believe it was the drawing of the nucleus (?) that really caught my eye. Life goes out one end and when it's life is 'done' it goes in the other end... I have a similar drawing that I would like to compare it to. It reminded me of God.

It's been a while since I've read it...I'll check it out like I planned....

It seemed to me that he was on the edge of science and spirituality, IF I remember correctly... He was trying to link them together ?

Hugs,
Anne

Yes, that's what I got too, about linking science and spirituality. Almost like a scientific "explanation" of consciousness, but without denying God either. For me, I'm always wanting reasons and explanations, and this one provided a lot of both, although it is all just theory. :)

It always seems to be science VS religion.....I wish it wasn't that way...they should work together. I adore both.

What he has written makes sense scientifically....to me, they just have to figure out the link that is missing between them, I guess...

I haven't read his other book....I wonder what he has to say in that one.

Hugs,
Anne

I have it and skimmed through it, but at the time I thought it was way "out there" and not at all what he was going for in this one. I might try reading it again because I would like to try to figure out how he came up with that stuff, but really, it is kind of... weird.
