Re: Pure Land Buddhism and the Urantia Book

There's also Dharmakaya, the Buddha-nature of the universe as a whole, which is similar to God the Supreme. If we have an inner Buddha-nature, then the sleeping subject may have been speaking truths coming through his own Buddha-nature, which were then interpreted by the Sadlers using their Christia...

Re: Pure Land Buddhism and the Urantia Book

While the Urantia Book is said to have come through an anonymous sleeping subject, the existence of Amitabha and the Pure Land were discovered through the historical Buddha's own enlightenment, who then taught these truths for the enlightenment of all beings.

Pure Land Buddhism and the Urantia Book

Pure Land Buddhism is the most widely practiced school of Buddhism in the world. The written sources for Pure Land Buddhism date to the first and second century, but it's likely based on a much older oral tradition. We must not forget that ancient India was an oral culture, and important religious t...

Re: David Icke speaking on the era of light and life?

I think the idea is that the Israeli occupation of Palestine should end now, and that Western governments should stop being guilted or shamed into unquestioningly supporting Israel's occupation of the Palestinians. No reasonable person says that the Holocaust never happened, but the way it's been ex...

Re: David Icke speaking on the era of light and life?

The thing about Norman Finkelstein is that his parents were Holocaust survivors. He can't be accused of supporting a white supremacist agenda. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Holocaust_Industry Finkelstein writes from the perspective of a Jew denouncing the way that the Holocaust has been used to j...

Re: David Icke speaking on the era of light and life?

Some dispute the official number of those who died during the Holocaust or whether there were gas chambers, but reasonable people agree that Hitler was a tyrant who persecuted the Jews, among many other religious and ethnic groups. The other side of the coin, however, is that the United States kille...

Re: The Bhagavad Gita

I've read the Jesus Papers and I felt that it gave a more compelling picture of Jesus than traditional Christianity. Nonetheless, what I think is missing in the Urantia Book is specific instructions for living the spiritual life, including techniques of prayer and meditation. I wish it was there, be...

Re: The Bhagavad Gita

After some serious searching, I've come to find that there are no Hindu temples or meditation centers in my area. However, there is a Buddhist temple of the Pure Land or Shin school of Buddhism, for which the Urantia Book speaks favorably. Rather than being atheistic, as some schools of Buddhism are...

Re: The Bhagavad Gita

I really appreciate what you are saying about Jesus, and he did perfectly exemplify unconditional love, but that's also what Hindus believe about Krishna. I am honestly having a hard time at the moment, though, relating to Jesus as a human being. He didn't have a wife and children. He didn't have to...

Re: The Bhagavad Gita

In the traditional literature, Krishna is depicted as a playful romantic, a flute player, a husband and father, as well as the incarnation of divine Love. He may not have died for the sins of the world, but as an all around character, both divine and human, Krishna is more appealing for many people ...

Re: The Bhagavad Gita

I appreciate that there are readers of the Urantia Book who've relied on it for decades as their primary source of spiritual truth. I don't want to disparage or discourage any of these people. I've been reading the Urantia Book for over four years now. It's always been a book that's stimulated me in...

Re: The Bhagavad Gita

The Bhagavad Gita is the most beloved text of Hinduism. It teaches that the path to salvation is found in loving God and being devoted to him in your daily life, rather than through renunciation and asceticism.

Re: The Bhagavad Gita

I've had a fascination with Krishna ever since I was in high school, especially due to the similarities between the names Christ and Krishna, and between their lives and teachings. Many Hindus believe Krishna to be the Father of Jesus.

Has anyone on this forum read the Bhagavad Gita? I've been fascinated by this book for a long time, yet I've never read the whole thing. Re: Meher Baba

I know this is an old thread, but all I was trying to say is that, like Adam, Melchizedek and Jesus, I think that certain persons in modern times may have been divine incarnations. I can't say who exactly was a divine being in human form, but I at least acknowledge the possibility. In a sense, we ar...

Let My Love Open the Door

I had somewhat of a spiritual experience listening to this song today. Pete Townshend originally wrote it as a love song from God. I was crying in front of my kids and saying sorry to God for not being aware enough of his love. Then I started thinking about how I need love to be the motivator of eve...

Is the universe an illusion?

Hinduism teaches that the universe is the unfolding of Brahman, the universe absolute, and not the solid state that we perceive it as. Can this be compared to what the Urantia Book says about the Supreme Being? Is the evolving universe the unfolding manifestation of the Supreme Being?

Re: David Icke speaking on the era of light and life?

In some ways, Icke is a complete nut, but even a broken clock is right twice a day. On a related note, why do so many internet conspiracy theorists deny the Holocaust? The fact that former SS members confessed to the reality of the Holocaust and referred to Holocaust deniers as ignorant people shoul...

Re: The benefits of reading the Urantia Book

The Urantia Book has answered more of my questions about our relationship with God, the origin of life, life on other planets, life after death, etc. than anything I've ever seen, and yet it doesn't condemn you if you don't believe in it or require you to join an institutional religion. That, my fri...
